【歌詞対訳】”Tom’s Diner” (DNA Remix) / Suzanne Vega

ベスト盤（Tried & True: The Best of Suzanne Vega, 1998）などに収録。「ルカ」と並んでスザンヌ・ヴェガを代表する一曲。この曲はもともとアカペラの小品（最後に配置されているリプライズは演奏入り）としてセカンドアルバム『孤独（ひとり）』（Solitude Standing, 1987）に収録されていたのを、ニック・バットとニール・スレイトフォードというプロデューサーふたりがDNAという名前でリミックスしたところ、おおいにバズったという経歴をもっている。

このズンドコズンドコいうリミックスに「こんなものはスザンヌ・ヴェガではない！」と怒りをおぼえたファンも当時はいたんじゃなかろうか。しかしスザンヌ本人はこの成功に味をしめたのか、92年の4作目『華氏99.9度』（99.9℉）はインダストリアル要素をいっぱいに取り込んだ作風に仕上がっている。ライブ演奏もこのリミックス・バージョンがスタンダードになっているようなので、すくなくとも本人は気に入っているはずだ。

学生の頃からあまりに聞きすぎて中身についてはなにも言うべきことがない。聞いたことがない方は、スザンヌの憂いをおびた歌声と、詞ではなく完全に「物語」になっているメロディを味わっていただければと思う。なお、DNAリミックスでは最後のヴァースの"I am thinking of your voice"までしか歌われていないが、対訳は原曲のものを示しておく。
