デビューアルバム『ドゥー・ユー・ビリーヴ・イン・マジック』（Do You Believe in Magic, 1965）やベスト盤に収録。ザ・ラヴィン・スプーンフルは元ザ・マグワンプスのジョン・セバスチャン、ザル・ヤノフスキーの2人によって1965年にニューヨークで結成されたフォークロックバンド（ちなみに、別のメンバーはママス＆パパスを結成）。その他のヒット曲に「デイドリーム」（“Daydream”(1966)）、「サマー・イン・ザ・シティ」（“Summer in the City” (1966)）など。92年生まれなのに中学校時代にビートルズやローリング・ストーンズにはまっていた僕だが、さすがに彼らのことは知らなかった。だから今になってあまりメジャーではない古い音楽をせっせと聴いているというわけである。それにしても、少年時代に夢中になったものは30を過ぎた今でもやっぱり好きで、古いロックンロールなんかを聴くとそれだけでテンションがあがってくる。ということで、"Do you believe in magic?"に対する僕の答えは"Yes! Of course!"だ。

＊believe inは「…の存在を信じる」という意味なので厳密に訳すと「君は魔法があると思うかい？」となるが、くどくなるのでここでは単に「信じる」という訳でとおした。
