9枚目のアルバム『ザ・フューチャー』（The Future, 1992）のタイトル・トラック。20世紀という戦争の世紀を倒錯的な嗜虐性や退廃、聖書的なイメージによって描き出すアポカリプティック（黙示録的）な歌。1994年には同アルバム収録の「アンセム」（"Anthem"）「ウェイティング・フォー・ザ・ミラクル」（"Waiting for the Miracle"）とともに、オリバー・ストーン監督の映画『ナチュラル・ボーン・キラーズ』（Natural Born Killers）のエンディングで使われたが、この映画のために書かれたんじゃないの？というくらい見事にはまっている。「愛だけが生き延びるための原動力なのだ」というクサい一節が世界の終末的な混沌としたイメージのなかで光っている。
