【歌詞対訳】”Queen of the Slipstream” / Van Morrison

17作目のアルバム『ポエティック・チャンピオンズ・コンポーズ』（Poetic Champions Compose, 1987）に収録。ヴァン・モリソン（1945-）は北アイルランド・ベルファスト出身のシンガー。1964年にゼム（Them）のボーカリストとしてデビューし、脱退後はアメリカに移りソロに転向。昨日取り上げたニール・ヤングなどと並ぶ、ポップミュージック界の大御所中の大御所である。キャリアの長さ的にはミック・ジャガー（1943年生まれ、ローリング・ストーンズとして1963年にデビュー）なんかとそう変わらないのだが、イメージ的に彼は大御所という感じはしない。一方、ヴァンはいぶし銀のロックシンガーであり、それに加えて相当な偏屈おやじなので、やはり大御所という呼び方をしたくなる。この美しいバラードはヴァンの曲のなかでは僕の一番好きなものだ。ロックシンガーなのだからそういった曲を選んでもいいのだが、やはりこのぶっきらぼうな歌い方とストリングスの組み合わせがもたらす妙味は、彼にしかなしえないものだと思う。

＊動詞drinkの過去分詞は一般的にはdrunkだが、（米略式）ではdrankも用いられる。なお、drink of…は「（…から一部を）飲む）という意味を表す。
